Website Audit for Dental Care of Brentwood

Prepared for Dr. Justin Raanan · May 2026

We reviewed every signal — page-by-page content, Semrush rankings, Local Falcon coverage, schema markup, Google Business Profile configuration, and the manual user experience. The audit surfaced 12 sitewide problems and one major positioning decision. Our finding: the site needs a full rebuild, not a patch job. This report explains why, and what to do instead.

The site is ranking — just not for what books patients.

Two-thirds of organic traffic lands on one blog post about tartar. The actual service pages — Invisalign, Laser Dentistry, Implants — are getting zero monthly visits.

Issues Found

12 sitewide problems, most are not page-level.

Almost every issue below repeats across multiple pages. That's the core reason we recommend a rebuild — these aren't local bugs, they're systemic rot in the template and content layer.

ISSUE 01 · SITEWIDE Critical · Brand Contamination

"Smile Studio Los Angeles" — another practice's brand — appears across the site

References to "Smile Studio Los Angeles Dentists" and "Smile Studio" appear on Dr. Raanan's bio page, the General Dentistry page, the Cosmetic Dentistry page, and likely others. The site is wearing another practice's brand by accident.

📌 Evidence — Dr. Justin Raanan bio page

"Smile Studio has been on the leading edge of that transformation from using computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) design techniques..."

📌 Evidence — General Dentistry page CTA

"Come in for a consultation and find out all about the best porcelain dental veneers in Los Angeles. Let Smile Studio Los Angeles Dentists help you Own Your Smile™."

✓ The fix

This isn't a find-and-replace problem — it tells us the entire site was built from another practice's template and never fully customized. The Cosmetic Dentistry page even lists pediatric procedures (Pulp Therapy, Space Maintainers) under "cosmetic services." A rebuild solves this cleanly. Patching means auditing every page, every section, every footer.

ISSUE 02 Critical · Keyword Cannibalization

Blog posts are competing against (and cannibalizing) the service pages

Several pieces of content are published as blog posts (og:type: article) when they should be service pages. When two URLs on the same domain target the same keywords, Google has to pick one — and rankings split, suppressing both.

Example: cosmetic dentistry cannibalization
Service Page
/cosmetic-dentistry-in-brentwood
Target: "cosmetic dentistry brentwood"
Should rank #1 locally
Blog Post (article)
/best-cosmetic-dentistry-options-in-brentwood
Target: "best cosmetic dentistry brentwood"
Same intent, fighting for the same ranking
Example: family checkups cannibalization
Service Page
/general-dentistry
Target: "dentist brentwood families"
Where bookings should land
Blog Post (article)
/dental-checkups-for-brentwood-families
Target: "dental checkups brentwood families"
Stealing intent from the service page

Both blog URLs are tagged with og:type: article in their metadata — Google reads them as blog content. We also found a completely malformed link inside the cosmetic blog post:

✓ The fix

Audit every blog post. Where a post targets the same intent as a service page, fold its content INTO the service page and 301-redirect. Keep blog posts for educational, top-of-funnel content (like the tartar article that works). A rebuild lets us design the content architecture properly from day one.

ISSUE 03 · SITEWIDE Critical · Broken Links

Broken & placeholder links across the doctor's bio and other key pages

On Dr. Justin Raanan's bio page, multiple "Read more" and credential links are broken or point to about:blank. The malformed link inside the cosmetic blog post is another example. The "View All Services" button on the homepage points to # (nowhere). The Harvard / USC / ADA / Alpha Omega credentialing logos all share one mashed-together URL string instead of linking individually to verification sources.

✓ The fix

Broken links hurt SEO directly — Google interprets them as a quality-of-maintenance signal. Patients researching credentials lose trust when "Harvard School of Dental Medicine" doesn't link to the actual Harvard page. A full link audit on the current site would touch every page; rebuilding lets us build URLs correctly from the start.

ISSUE 04 Critical · UX + SEO

Services don't exist in the main menu

The "MENU" button opens a popup with only top-level links. Invisalign, Implants, Veneers, Laser Dentistry, Gum Grafting, Sedation, Pediatric — none appear in navigation. Patients have to scroll the homepage and click through categories. Search engines treat unlinked service pages as low-priority, which is one reason Invisalign and Laser Dentistry show zero organic traffic.

✓ The fix

A modern mega-menu organized by specialty: Cosmetic · Restorative · Periodontal · General · Orthodontics · Pediatric · Sedation. Every service linked from the global header. This is foundational architecture — easier to design from scratch than retrofit into Elementor.

ISSUE 05 Critical · SEO + Conversion

"Appointment" and "Emergencies" send patients off your domain

Both header buttons link to mychart.myoryx.com. The moment a patient clicks, they leave the site entirely — taking SEO signals, analytics, and remarketing opportunities with them. The buttons also visually break on hover. One reason the Authority Score sits at 9/100.

✓ The fix

An on-site /book page that captures the lead, then embeds MyOryx or hands off to the front desk. Keep visitors on the domain through conversion. Add UTM tracking. Modern dental sites handle this natively — Elementor templates don't.

ISSUE 06 · SITEWIDE High · Layout Bugs

Layout breaks across service pages — phone number splits into two lines

On the General Dentistry page (and others), the phone number wraps onto two lines because the "Call Now (310) 826-8911 / Book an Appointment" line isn't wrapped in a proper non-breaking element. Hard-coded line breaks in the page builder also misalign content across viewports. These are symptoms of a page built one-off in Elementor instead of from reusable, responsive components.

✓ The fix

Modern component-based templates make this impossible — a "phone CTA" component renders correctly on every page automatically. Fixing in Elementor means editing each page individually.

ISSUE 07 High · Brand + AEO

Stock photography across every treatment page

Image filenames like pexels-rb-audiovisual-1996887-scaled.jpg confirm Pexels stock photos sitewide. A luxury practice that teaches at Harvard is hiding its real credibility — actual office, actual team, actual equipment, actual before/after results — behind generic imagery. AI search engines also weight original visuals.

✓ The fix

Half-day professional photo shoot: doctors, team, office, equipment (X-NAV, Waterlase, in-house lab), real before/after gallery. Integrating new photography into a rebuild is straightforward; retrofitting it into Elementor's existing image blocks is painful.

ISSUE 08 High · AI Search

FAQs aren't structured for ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI

The homepage has strong FAQ content — but no FAQPage schema, no semantic markup, and questions are phrased as internal speak ("Can a Periodontist help?") instead of how patients search ("How much do dental implants cost in Brentwood?"). AI engines can't extract it cleanly, so they cite competitors instead.

✓ The fix

A rebuild ships with FAQ schema sitewide, patient-language questions, and FAQs on each service page instead of stacked on the homepage. The AEO framework gets built in — not bolted on.

ISSUE 09 High · SEO Strategy

All traffic is on a blog post that doesn't book patients

The tartar article pulls ~390 visits/month — and almost none of them convert. No contextual CTA back to cleanings or periodontal service pages. Meanwhile Invisalign and Laser Dentistry rank for keywords but get zero traffic.

✓ The fix

Rebuild the funnel: contextual CTAs on educational content linking to the right service pages. Add 1–2 long-tail articles per month following the same pattern. Service pages need to be rebuilt anyway — a fresh site lets us model the entire path from "tartar question" to "booked cleaning" intentionally.

ISSUE 10 High · Strategy

The practice is competing against its own second website

Semrush flags drjustinraanan.com as a direct organic competitor. The header logo also links to drrodneyraanan.com. Multiple Raanan-family practice sites are competing for the same keywords — Google has to choose, and rankings split.

✓ The fix

Pick dentalcareofbrentwood.com as the primary domain. 301-redirect drjustinraanan.com. Remove the secondary logo. Domain consolidation needs to happen as part of the rebuild migration.

ISSUE 11 Medium · Schema

Schema markup is missing or incomplete

No Dentist schema, no Physician schema for each doctor, no FAQPage on FAQs, no MedicalProcedure on treatment pages, no AggregateRating to surface the 50+ five-star reviews in Google's rich results.

✓ The fix

A modern rebuild ships with all relevant schema baked into the templates — every doctor page automatically gets Physician schema, every service page automatically gets MedicalProcedure schema. Add-on plugins in WordPress/Elementor get half of this right.

ISSUE 12 Medium · Off-Page

Domain authority is at 9/100 — well below the local benchmark

The domain has 2,970 backlinks from 428 referring domains, but Authority Score sits at 9/100. The brand reputation (Harvard, 50+ five-star reviews, Best Dentist Brentwood 2025) isn't reflected online because the site isn't structured to capture and signal that authority.

✓ The fix

A clean rebuild with proper schema, citation consistency, real photography, and AEO structure will let Google understand the practice's actual authority. Authority score follows from there over 3–6 months.

Strategic Positioning

The Google Business Profile is quietly capping growth.

The practice has the right secondary categories on its Google Business Profile — Dentist, Cosmetic Dentist, Implants Provider, Orthodontist. But the primary category is Periodontist, which is the single most powerful local-SEO signal Google uses. Right now the listing is optimized to win periodontist searches first, and everything else second. That may or may not match where Dr. Raanan wants the practice to grow.

Google Business Profile · Current Configuration
What Google sees today
Dental Care of Brentwood
11980 San Vicente Blvd #814 · Los Angeles, CA 90049 · 4.9 ★ (50+ reviews)
Periodontist
→ This is what Google ranks the listing for first. "Periodontist Brentwood," "gum disease specialist near me," "dental implants 90049" all benefit. "Dentist Brentwood," "crowns near me," "Invisalign Brentwood" — much less so.
Secondary Categories (already set up)
Dentist Cosmetic Dentist Dental Implants Provider Orthodontist Emergency Dental Service
Secondary categories add relevance for those searches, but they don't drive top-3 Map Pack placement the way the primary does.
⚡ Why this matters
Google's local algorithm weighs the primary category heaviest — it's the #1 factor in deciding which businesses appear in the Map Pack for a given search. Changing the primary is the single biggest local-SEO lever available. The question isn't whether to fix it — it's which direction matches the vision.
A Long-Term Suggestion

Worth considering: a name that matches the expertise.

I see your main GBP category is set as Periodontist, but the business name is "Dental Care of Brentwood." The phrase "Dental Care" tends to read as general, affordable family dentistry to most patients searching online — which doesn't reinforce the periodontist and dental implants positioning Dr. Raanan's training actually supports.

This is just a suggestion — not something to rush. But if the long-term vision is to grow the practice's reputation around periodontics and dental implants, it may be worth finding a domain and business name that aligns with that direction.

Current
Dental Care of Brentwood
Reads as: general, affordable, family dentistry. Doesn't signal specialist expertise.
Possible Direction
Brentwood Periodontics & Implant Center
Reads as: specialist, premium. Matches Harvard training. Builds immediate trust with implant patients doing research.

Why this matters long-term: Implant patients and complex periodontal cases tend to research their provider extensively before booking — they want a specialist, not a general dentist. A name that signals "this is what we do" builds trust faster, justifies premium pricing, and helps both the website and the Google Business Profile rank for the higher-value searches Dr. Raanan should be winning. Better for growth, better for branding, over the next 3–5 years.

⚡ Our Verdict

Rebuild the site. Patching what's there will cost more — and won't fix what's structurally wrong.

Our Recommendation

Why we recommend a rebuild, not a repair.

When every page has the same problems — wrong content, broken links, layout bugs, no schema, stock photos, "Smile Studio" references — fixing them one at a time costs more than starting fresh. Here's the side-by-side.

✕ Not Recommended
Option A

Patch the current site

  • Audit every page individually for "Smile Studio" references and template errors
  • Hand-fix layout bugs and phone breaks across each Elementor page
  • Rebuild service page content inside the existing template constraints
  • Bolt on schema with plugins that only cover half of what's needed
  • Manually deduplicate blog posts and 301-redirect 8+ URLs
  • Inherit Elementor performance issues (Core Web Vitals stay weak)
  • Replace stock images one page at a time, fighting the page builder
  • Migrate away from MyOryx redirect — limited by current template

Option B

Rebuild from scratch

  • Modern, fast foundation (Webflow or a custom Next.js build)
  • Information architecture designed for service discovery from day one
  • Reusable components — fix the phone CTA once, fixed everywhere
  • Schema baked into every template (Dentist, Physician, FAQ, MedicalProcedure)
  • Real photography integrated as a first-class design element
  • Mega-menu, on-site booking, AEO-friendly content structure built-in
  • Content rewritten properly — no template ghosts, no Smile Studio references
  • Core Web Vitals optimized from the start — Google ranks faster sites higher

Bottom line: A rebuild is faster, lower-risk, and produces a better outcome. The patch approach means dragging an aging Elementor site forward while paying for every fix. The rebuild gives Dr. Raanan a site that matches the quality of the practice.

Local Competitive Landscape

The actual local field, within 2 miles.

Honest correction: the keyword-based competitors Semrush surfaced (Darling DDS, Konda's, etc.) are mostly based in other Brentwoods — Tennessee, Missouri, New York. They share keywords, not geography. Here's the real field around 11980 San Vicente Blvd, ranked by Google review count — the single most powerful signal for Map Pack placement and the metric where Dr. Raanan is most behind.

The good news: Dr. Raanan's 5.0-star rating is the same as the top competitors. The credentials (Harvard, MMSc, faculty) are stronger than most. Patients love the practice — there just aren't enough of them publicly saying so yet.

The fix: Review generation is the highest-ROI move available right now. A simple post-visit text-message ask, sent every day, would close most of this gap inside 6 months. Target: 5–8 new Google reviews per month — that gets the practice past 150 reviews by end of year and into competitive Map Pack territory.

Our Game Plan

How we'd grow the practice — step by step.

We don't believe in flashy launches that flame out. The plan starts with a strong technical foundation, then layers ongoing engines on top — each one compounding the last over months and years.

⚡ Start Here
01
The Foundation
Rebuild the website from the ground up.

What we'd do in Step 1

This is the heaviest lift — and the precondition for everything that comes next. We rebuild the entire website with a strong technical and on-page SEO foundation. Without this layer in place, the work in the engines below won't compound the way it should.

  • Rebuild the website. Start fresh on a modern platform with a clean visual design, premium Brentwood positioning, and a structure that reflects the four-doctor multi-specialty practice.
  • Fix every layout issue and broken link. Clean URLs, proper redirects, no more about:blank placeholders, no more malformed links inside blog posts.
  • Lock in a strong SEO structure. Proper heading hierarchy, semantic HTML, clean internal linking, mega-menu navigation, Core Web Vitals optimized from day one.
  • Add FAQs to every treatment page — written in patient language, structured for both SEO and AI search extraction.
  • Schema markup on every page — Dentist, Physician, FAQPage, MedicalProcedure, AggregateRating. Set up so every treatment page and informational page gets the right schema automatically.
  • Blog-by-blog audit. Read each post, identify cannibalization (where a blog competes with a treatment page), and either fold the post into the treatment page or rewrite/redirect. Stops confusing Google about which page to rank.
  • Real photography — doctors, team, office, equipment, before/afters. Zero stock photos.

Why this matters: a strong foundation is what every other channel — reviews, backlinks, content, AI search — needs to actually compound. Skipping it means the rest of the work leaks instead of stacks.

What runs alongside & after — the ongoing engines
02

Authority & Backlinks

Once the on-page SEO is solid, we start building backlinks, citations, and brand mentions across high-quality dental and local publications.

The goal: become a source AI search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews) cite when patients ask about periodontists, dental implants, or premium dentistry in West LA.

Target Authority Score 9 → 30+ in 12 months
03

Review Generation

A consistent, daily review-collection cadence. Post-visit text-message asks make it effortless for happy patients to leave a Google review.

Recency matters more than volume — a steady drip of fresh reviews beats a thousand old ones. Google's algorithm rewards velocity and freshness.

Target 5–8 new Google reviews per month, every month
04

Content Engine

Monthly long-form articles written specifically for AI search visibility and traditional SEO. Patient-language questions, structured answers, schema-rich.

Each piece links back to the relevant service page, building topical authority around periodontics, implants, and cosmetic dentistry over time.

Target 1–2 high-quality articles per month
05

Google Business Management

Hands-on GBP management: weekly posts, review responses, Q&A monitoring, photo updates, service descriptions. The GBP is treated as a living asset, not a one-time setup.

Combined with Local Falcon scans to track Map Pack rankings month-over-month and iterate on what moves placement.

Target Top-3 Map Pack for 8+ core keywords in 6 months
06

Tracking & Reporting

We use multiple tools together so nothing slips: Semrush for keyword position, Local Falcon for Map Pack tracking, GA4 for traffic, Search Console for impressions and click data.

Monthly reports show what's working, what isn't, and what to iterate next month. The data drives the decisions — not guesses.

Target Monthly reporting cadence · always know where you stand
07

Brand Evolution (Long-Term)

As reviews, content, and authority compound, we revisit the brand-positioning question — does the long-term vision support a name change toward periodontics & implants specialist?

If the answer is yes, we'd plan that transition carefully — with 301 redirects, citation updates, and GBP migration — to preserve everything we've built.

Target Revisit at 6-month review

The credentials, the reviews, the reputation, and the patients are all there. The site just isn't carrying that weight yet — and it can't be patched into doing so. Let's rebuild it right, and grow it the way it should have been growing all along.
