Website Audit for Pearl Dental Group

Prepared by Dentist Nerds · May 2026

Pearl Dental Group runs three offices across Baton Rouge and Metairie under a single website — and the site is already pulling 15,915 organic visits per month, which is strong. But under the hood, the audit found a structural issue worth solving for long-term growth: the website is trying to serve two different markets (Baton Rouge and Metairie) from one URL, plus a real cannibalization problem where AI-generated blogs are competing with the homepage and treatment pages for the same keywords. There's also a GBP NAP conflict at the Perkins Rd address, internal-linking quality issues, and traces of ChatGPT URLs/UTMs left behind in published pages. Here's the full breakdown.

Health Score Breakdown

Overall site health: 58/100.
Strong traffic — held back by structural and content issues.

We graded the site using Semrush data (15,915 monthly organic visits, 7,633 keywords, Authority Score 20, 606 referring domains), the Google Business Profile landscape, the live local competitive field via Local Falcon, and a manual UX review. Pearl Dental Group scores well above comparable local practices on traffic and authority, but loses points on multi-location architecture, content cannibalization, and the AI-generated content leaks visible across the URL structure.

What's Working

The site has real momentum already — let's name it first.

Pearl Dental Group is on different footing than most local dental practices. The site already pulls strong traffic, the doctors are well-credentialed, the GBP listings have 1,000+ combined reviews, and the brand presentation is solid. These are foundations to compound, not problems to fix.

✓ Eight Things Pearl Dental Group Gets Right
  • 15,915 monthly organic visits — exceptionally strong for a dental practice and well above comparable Baton Rouge, LA dental competitors.
  • 7,633 ranking keywords · 606 referring domains — broad keyword footprint and a solid backlink base to compound from.
  • 1,164 combined Google reviews — Perkins (571), Jones Creek (536), Metairie (57). Strong social proof across the practice.
  • Clean treatment-page architecture — Dental Implants, Cosmetic, Periodontics, Full Mouth Reconstruction, Sedation. The IA backbone is in good shape.
  • Strong patient-story video content — full mouth reconstruction patient stories (Charmaine, Mike, Jeff) on the homepage are real social proof patients actually watch.
  • Real photography throughout — actual doctor portraits, office interiors, real amenity shots. Zero stock-photo problem.
  • Free Virtual Consultation funnel — Pearl Smile Consult is a smart pre-qualification tool that turns site visitors into engaged leads without forcing a phone call.
  • In-house lab + 3D imaging — operational differentiators that justify premium full-arch positioning and faster turnaround claims.

The pattern: the front-end engagement signals (reviews, brand, real content, video stories) are doing well. Where the audit found friction is in the back-end architecture — multi-location URL strategy, blog cannibalization, AI-generated content leaks, GBP NAP overlap, and most importantly, the bulk of the traffic is coming from informational queries that don't convert to Baton Rouge or Metairie patients. The plan: fix those structural issues, then redirect the SEO machinery toward the queries that actually book appointments.

The Headline Finding

Most of the traffic isn't Baton Rouge patients.

Pearl Dental Group has 15,915 monthly visits — but when we pull the top-traffic keywords, an important pattern emerges: most of the traffic is from informational, research-stage queries with no local intent. People reading "what is a zirconia bridge price" from anywhere in the country are not booking appointments in Baton Rouge or Metairie. The site's SEO machinery is producing volume, just not the right kind of volume.

Informational · price-research queries
What Books Appointments
Local
"Dentist Baton Rouge", "Implants Metairie"
Transactional · local-intent queries
The mismatch
High traffic is great — but only if it converts. Informational traffic builds authority over time, while local-intent traffic is what fills the appointment book this week. Pearl Dental is heavy on the first kind and underweighting the second.

What this means: The 15,915 monthly visits look impressive on a dashboard, but the highest-traffic pages are educational blogs answering questions for people who are researching, not booking. The path forward isn't to kill these blogs — they build authority — but to rebalance where the SEO effort goes so the homepage and treatment pages start winning the local, transactional queries that actually fill chairs in Baton Rouge and Metairie.

What Needs Fixing

Nine issues holding the site back — all fixable.

For a multi-location practice already pulling strong traffic, the audit found structural and content issues that, once cleaned up, should redirect significantly more of the existing SEO momentum into actual patient bookings. Ranked by impact below.

3
Critical · structure & intent
4
High priority
2
Medium · polish
8
Already working well
ISSUE 1 Critical · Site Strategy

One website is trying to serve two different markets — Baton Rouge and Metairie.

Pearl Dental Group operates three offices: Perkins Rd and Jones Creek Rd in Baton Rouge (75 miles inland), and Veterans Blvd in Metairie (suburb of New Orleans). Treating these as one SEO entity forces every treatment page to either pick a city or stay generic — neither of which ranks well for local-intent searches. For example: the /emergency-dentistry/ page targets "Baton Rouge, LA" — but a New Orleans patient searching "emergency dentist Metairie" won't find Pearl Dental ranking for that. Same problem in reverse for Baton Rouge-specific terms when the Metairie content fights for attention.

✓ The recommendation — split into two websites

Build one website for the two Baton Rouge offices (Perkins Rd + Jones Creek Rd, since they share a metro and competitive field) and a separate website for the Metairie office (730 Veterans Blvd). Each site gets its own clean geo-targeting, its own keyword strategy, its own backlink profile, and its own GBP integration. This is the single biggest lever Pearl Dental Group can pull for long-term local SEO growth. The brand and visual identity stay the same across both sites — what changes is that each one is optimized for the right city.

ISSUE 2 Critical · Cannibalization

Blogs are competing with the homepage and treatment pages for the same keywords.

Several blog posts target the exact same keywords the homepage and treatment pages are trying to rank for in Baton Rouge — which means Google has to pick which page to show, and often shows the wrong one (or neither well). Examples we found:

  • /pearl-dental-group-the-pinnacle-of-cosmetic-dentistry-in-baton-rouge/ — competes with /cosmetic-dentistry/
  • /revolutionize-your-smile-with-premium-dental-implants-in-baton-rouge/ — competes with /dental-implants/
  • /enhancing-your-smile-with-porcelain-veneers-in-baton-rouge-pearl-dental-group/ — competes with /cosmetic-dentistry/porcelain-veneers-lumineers/
  • /the-differences-between-implant-supported-dentures-and-all-on-4-dental-implants-in-baton-rouge-la/ — competes with /dental-implants/all-on-4-dental-implants/

This is cannibalization — both the blog and the treatment page are fighting for the same keyword. Google can't tell which one to show first, so it dilutes the ranking signal for both. The treatment page (the page that converts) loses ground to the blog (the page that doesn't).

✓ The fix

Audit every blog against the treatment pages. For overlapping topics: either 301-redirect the blog into the treatment page (combining content + link equity), or refocus the blog onto a long-tail informational angle the treatment page doesn't cover (e.g., a recovery-experience post, financing-comparison post, FAQ deep-dive). The treatment page should always rank first for the core money keyword; the blog should support it, not fight it.

ISSUE 3 Critical · Traffic Intent

Most of the traffic is informational research, not patients ready to book.

Covered in detail in the section above. Pearl Dental Group's top traffic-driving pages are price-research blogs ("zirconia bridge", "full fixed arch implant cost", "full mouth dental implants cost") and symptom-research blogs ("my crown fell out", "side of tooth decay", "black gums"). These pull big traffic numbers but they're nationally-distributed informational queries. Someone in Houston researching zirconia bridge prices will never book at Pearl Dental Group. Meanwhile the homepage and treatment pages — the ones designed to convert local searches into bookings — are getting smaller slices of attention.

✓ The fix

Don't kill the informational blogs — they build authority. But rebalance the SEO investment so the homepage and treatment pages get the priority for local-intent terms: "dentist Baton Rouge," "dental implants Baton Rouge," "veneers Baton Rouge," "emergency dentist Metairie," etc. Strengthen the homepage and treatment pages with Baton Rouge-specific content, local schema markup, internal links from blog → treatment page (not the reverse), and clean URL geo-modifiers. The goal: keep the big traffic and add more of the right traffic on top.

ISSUE 4 High · Content Quality

ChatGPT URLs and UTMs are leaking into published page titles.

We found published pages where the URL itself contains a ChatGPT UTM parameter — for example:

/transform-your-smile-with-confidence-dental-implants-baton-rouge-for-lasting-results/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

This is a strong signal that the page was copy-pasted from a ChatGPT response without removing the tracking parameter — the URL slug is the AI-generated headline phrasing, and the UTM is the source attribution ChatGPT itself adds. The page reads like AI output too (long, generic, "transformative" / "revolutionize" / "pinnacle of excellence" filler language). Google increasingly down-ranks pages that read as low-effort AI-generated content, especially when the published URL itself reveals the source.

✓ The fix

Audit every URL with ?utm_source=chatgpt.com in it and clean it up — strip the UTM, rewrite the slug to a clean keyword-focused phrase, and revise the body copy to read like it was written by the practice rather than a generative AI. AI is a useful drafting tool, but the published version has to be edited by a human to remove generic language, source UTMs, and the obvious AI-tells. This is also a good time to merge or 301-redirect the AI-generated blogs that overlap with Issue 2 (cannibalization).

ISSUE 5 High · GBP NAP Conflict

Two Google Business Profiles share the same address and phone at the Perkins location.

At 7017 Perkins Rd, Pearl Dental Group operates two separate Google Business Profile listings that share the same phone number:

PRIMARY · Pearl Dental Group & Dental Implant Center
7017 Perkins Rd · (225) 277-3311
571 reviews · 4.9 ★
SECONDARY · Baton Rouge Dental Implant Center | Pearl Dental
7017 Perkins Rd Suite B · (225) 277-3311
18 reviews · 4.9 ★

Same building, same phone, slight address variation. Google's local algorithm uses Name + Address + Phone (NAP) to differentiate businesses — when two listings overlap this closely, Google can struggle to tell them apart, which risks suppressing one in the Map Pack or weakening both. This is the same problem we identified on the Rifkin Raanan audit.

✓ The fix — Dentist Nerds installs call tracking

Install a dedicated call-tracking number on one of the two listings. The new number rings through to the same front desk at (225) 277-3311, so no calls are lost and the patient experience doesn't change. But from Google's perspective, each listing now has a unique NAP signature, which removes the duplicate-listing ambiguity. Bonus: call-tracking analytics let you see which listing actually drives the phone volume that turns into bookings. Dentist Nerds handles end-to-end setup: number provisioning, GBP updates, schema markup on the website, and the analytics dashboard.

ISSUE 6 High · Location → GBP Links

Location pages on the site aren't linking to the right Google Business Profiles.

Two location-page issues that confuse the link between the website and Google:

  • Jones Creek Rd & Perkins Rd location pages link to the same GBP. Each office should link to its own dedicated GBP (Pearl Dental Group & Dental Implant Center for Perkins · Pearl Dental Group - Jones Creek Rd. for Jones Creek). Right now Google can't cleanly associate each location page on the site with its matching GBP.
  • Veterans Blvd (Metairie) location page links to just an address, not the GBP. The page should link directly to the Metairie Pearl Dental Group GBP — that's how Google associates the website page with the local business profile and ranks it for "dentist Metairie" type searches.
✓ The fix

Update each location page so it links directly to its own GBP. Use the Google Maps "embed code" or the GBP profile URL — not just a static address. This is one of the strongest local-SEO signals because it tells Google "this URL on this website represents this business at this Map Pack listing." Easy to fix, meaningful uplift.

ISSUE 7 High · Internal Linking

Internal links contain ChatGPT UTMs and link to the wrong destinations.

On the Dental Implants page, the brand name "Pearl Dental Group" is hyperlinked back to the homepage with a ?utm_source=chatgpt parameter attached. Same root cause as Issue 4 (AI-generated content not edited before publishing), and the same impact: internal links that pass UTM parameters to the homepage muddy the analytics, create duplicate-URL crawling waste for Google, and signal low-quality content management.

More broadly: internal linking on the site needs a strategic audit. The treatment pages should be the destinations that receive the most internal link equity (because they're the pages that convert) — not the homepage. Most blogs should link down to treatment pages, not across to other blogs or up to the homepage.

✓ The fix

Crawl the site, identify every internal link with a UTM parameter, and strip them. Then audit the link architecture: each treatment page should receive 8–15 contextual internal links from related blogs and from the homepage. Each blog should have 1–3 links pointing down to its parent treatment page. Clean links, clean equity flow, no tracking-parameter pollution.

ISSUE 8 Medium · Platform

The site appears to be built on Elementor — which tends to run slower and produce bloated code.

The page generator tag indicates Elementor as the underlying builder. Elementor-built sites tend to load more slowly than purpose-built ones because the page builder outputs a lot of extra wrapper divs, inline styles, and helper scripts that aren't strictly needed for what's on the page. The result is a heavier site — slower to load, harder for Google to crawl efficiently, and more complicated to maintain or extend with cleaner schema and per-location templates.

✓ The fix

This is a lower priority than the strategic issues above — the current setup is producing meaningful traffic, so an immediate rebuild isn't necessary. But when the two-website split (Issue 1) happens, it's the right moment to migrate both sites onto a leaner, faster, schema-ready stack with cleaner per-location templates, better Core Web Vitals, and code that doesn't drag the rest of the SEO work down. Plan it as part of the split, not as a separate project.

ISSUE 9 Medium · Technical SEO

Schema markup is incomplete sitewide.

No comprehensive Dentist schema with proper LocalBusiness tagging per location, no Physician schema on doctor pages, no FAQPage schema even where homepage content already includes FAQs, no MedicalProcedure schema on treatment pages, no AggregateRating tied to the GBP review counts. AI search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews) lean heavily on schema markup to decide which sources to cite for medical questions — without it, the content is harder to surface, regardless of how good it is.

✓ The fix

Add the full schema suite: Dentist + LocalBusiness per location (one for each of the three offices, with the correct NAP), Physician on each doctor page, FAQPage wherever FAQs already exist, MedicalProcedure on each treatment page, and AggregateRating tied to the GBP review counts. This is a 1–2 day implementation that produces a meaningful uplift in AI-search visibility — and becomes especially valuable when the two-website split happens, because each new site gets its own clean schema layer from day one.

Local Competitive Landscape

The Baton Rouge implant/dentistry field — Pearl Dental is already a top-3 player.

Pearl Dental Group's two Baton Rouge listings (Perkins + Jones Creek) combined have over 1,107 reviews, putting the practice in striking distance of the regional chains and ahead of every local specialist. The strategic question isn't how to start competing — it's how to compound the existing strength against larger national chains and lock in #1 in Baton Rouge.

The good news: Pearl Dental Group's combined Baton Rouge review count is 1,107 — second only to Affordable Dentures (932) and well ahead of Aspen Dental (613). On rating alone (4.9 ★), Pearl is materially stronger than both of the national chains.

The opportunity: Pearl Dental Group is already a top-3 player in Baton Rouge. With the structural and content fixes in this audit — and the two-website split for Baton Rouge vs Metairie — the practice can compound that lead, separate from the national chains on quality signals, and own the local "implants Baton Rouge" / "dentist Baton Rouge" searches that the chains currently outrank for on volume alone.

Our Game Plan

How we'd grow the practice — step by step.

We don't believe in flashy launches that flame out. The plan starts with a strong technical foundation, then layers ongoing engines on top — each one compounding the last over months and years.

⚡ Start Here
01
The Foundation
Split the website, clean up the content, redirect the SEO toward Baton Rouge & Metairie patients.

What we'd do in Step 1

Pearl Dental Group already has the traffic, the reviews, and the brand. What it doesn't have is a clean structural setup that lets each market — Baton Rouge and Metairie — actually compete for its own local searches. Step 1 fixes the structural problems, cleans up the cannibalization and AI-content leaks, refocuses the SEO engine on transactional/local queries, and sets up the GBP NAP solution that lets the Perkins Rd listings rank independently.

  • Plan the two-website split. One site for the two Baton Rouge offices (Perkins + Jones Creek), one site for Metairie (Veterans Blvd). Map the URL strategy, the 301 redirect plan, the shared brand assets, and the timeline so the split lifts both markets rather than disrupting the existing traffic.
  • Audit and resolve every cannibalizing blog. Crawl the site, identify every URL that competes with a treatment page or the homepage for the same keyword. For each: either 301-redirect the blog into the treatment page, or refocus the blog onto a long-tail informational angle the treatment page doesn't cover.
  • Clean up the ChatGPT UTMs and AI-content URL slugs. Find every URL containing ?utm_source=chatgpt.com or that reads as AI-generated headline phrasing. Rewrite the slugs, rewrite the body copy to remove the AI tells, and 301-redirect from old → new.
  • Install call tracking on the Perkins Rd secondary GBP (Baton Rouge Dental Implant Center). Dedicated forwarding number that rings through to (225) 277-3311, so no calls are lost, but the secondary listing now has its own unique NAP signature. Each Perkins listing can rank cleanly without competing against itself.
  • Fix the location-page → GBP links. Each office's location page on the site links directly to its own dedicated Google Business Profile (not to the same GBP as another location, not to a static address). Use embedded Google Maps with the actual GBP, not just an address card.
  • Strip internal-link UTMs and audit the link architecture. Treatment pages should be the destinations that receive the most internal link equity. Blogs should link down to their parent treatment page. No more ?utm_source=chatgpt on internal links.
  • Add the full schema suite — Dentist + LocalBusiness per location, Physician on each doctor page, FAQPage where FAQs exist, MedicalProcedure on each treatment page, AggregateRating tied to the actual GBP review counts. Especially valuable when the two-website split happens because each new site starts clean.
  • Add four AI-SEO-friendly blogs per month. Question-and-answer style content built specifically for how AI search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews) read and cite pages. Four new posts every month, on a steady cadence — each one tightly scoped to a question patients actually ask, structured with proper FAQ schema, and aligned to the treatment pages rather than competing with them.

Why this matters: Pearl Dental Group's traffic engine is already producing — it just needs to be pointed at the right audience. With the two-site split, the cannibalization cleanup, and the SEO rebalance, the same SEO effort that generated 15,915 monthly visits last month should start delivering meaningfully more local patient bookings — without losing the authority signals the existing traffic builds.

What runs alongside & after — the ongoing engines
02

Authority & Backlinks

Once the on-page SEO is solid, we start building backlinks, citations, and brand mentions across high-quality dental and local publications.

The goal: become a source AI search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews) cite when patients ask about cosmetic dentists, dental implants, full-arch reconstruction, or premium dentistry in Baton Rouge and Metairie.

Target Authority Score 9 → 30+ in 12 months
03

Content Engine

Monthly long-form articles written specifically for AI search visibility and traditional SEO. Patient-language questions, structured answers, schema-rich.

Each piece links back to the relevant service page, building topical authority around periodontics, implants, and cosmetic dentistry over time.

Target 1–2 high-quality articles per month
04

Google Business Management

Hands-on GBP management: weekly posts, review responses, Q&A monitoring, photo updates, service descriptions. The GBP is treated as a living asset, not a one-time setup.

Combined with Local Falcon scans to track Map Pack rankings month-over-month and iterate on what moves placement.

Target Top-3 Map Pack for 8+ core keywords in 6 months
05

Tracking & Reporting

We use multiple tools together so nothing slips: Semrush for keyword position, Local Falcon for Map Pack tracking, GA4 for traffic, Search Console for impressions and click data.

Monthly reports show what's working, what isn't, and what to iterate next month. The data drives the decisions — not guesses.

06

Grow Visibility In Baton Rouge & Metairie

With the two-website split and the issues from this audit cleaned up, Pearl Dental Group is in a strong position to compound its existing advantage. The combined Baton Rouge review count is already top-3 in the market. The brand is already trusted. The patient experience already drives 4.9 ★ reviews at scale. What's needed is the structural alignment so each office can rank for its own city's transactional queries.

This is one of the most achievable growth setups we've audited — because the engine is already running. We just need to point it at the right destinations.

Direction Top-tier visibility in both Baton Rouge and Metairie markets · 18–24 month horizon

Dentist Nerds is here to take Pearl Dental Group to the next level.

The traffic is strong. The reviews are real. The doctors are trusted. The brand is established. What's holding Pearl Dental back from its full potential is the structural misalignment — one website serving two markets, blogs competing with treatment pages, AI-content leaks in the URL structure, and a GBP NAP conflict at Perkins. Each of those is fixable. Together they unlock the next stage of growth for both the Baton Rouge and Metairie practices.
